Tottori (TTJ): the airport is officially named after Detective Conan
Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport, renamed in 2015 after the manga character whose creator was born here. The shuttle to the station is under 500 yen.
- The airport's official name is Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport, adopted in March 2015 to draw tourists.
- It is named after Detective Conan, the manga by Gosho Aoyama, who was born in the prefecture, and after the sand dunes.
- The airport shuttle bus runs to JR Tottori Station in about 20 minutes for 480 yen, quoted as about 470 elsewhere.
- A taxi to the station takes the same 20 minutes and costs 4,000 to 5,000 yen, about ten times the bus.
- From Tottori station, the sand dunes are reached by local bus 39, the Tottori Sakyu line, or 32 and 33 on the Iwami Iwai line, about 22 minutes for 380 yen.
- The Loop Kirinjishi bus runs at weekends and on holidays, 400 yen a ride or 700 yen for a day pass, about 20 minutes to the dunes.
- A taxi from the station to the dunes is about 2,900 yen, 15 minutes.
- Last buses leave between about 18:30 and 19:50 depending on the route and the day. Plan the return.
- One two-storey passenger terminal with free wifi, a paid lounge, ATMs and nursing rooms.
- The flights are domestic, mostly ANA to Tokyo Haneda.
The name
- Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport has been the official name since March 2015. It is not a nickname.
- Gosho Aoyama, who created Detective Conan, was born in the prefecture, and the name pairs him with the sand dunes as the two things Tottori is known for.
- The terminal is decorated accordingly. If you have no idea who Conan is, that will be the mildly surreal part of your arrival.

- The two fare figures for the airport shuttle, 470 and 480 yen, are close enough not to matter.
- The taxi is roughly ten times the bus for the same journey, which is an unusually large gap even by Japanese standards.
- Last buses run between about 18:30 and 19:50 depending on the route and whether it is a weekday. The dunes at sunset are the classic photograph, so check the last bus before you go out for it.

- Free wifi throughout, a paid lounge, ATMs, nursing rooms and accessible facilities.
- Domestic flights only in practice, principally ANA to Tokyo Haneda.
Why come
- The Tottori sand dunes are the only large dune field in Japan, on the Sea of Japan coast, and they are the reason the airport has the name it does.
- Tottori is the least populous prefecture in Japan, which is part of the appeal and part of why the flight schedule is thin.
