Dortmund Airport (DTM) to the city
The AirportExpress is 10.00 EUR direct to Dortmund Hbf in 25 minutes; the AirportShuttle is 3.00 EUR to Holzwickede station in 6 minutes, from where the RB59 runs into Dortmund.
- The AirportExpress is 10.00 EUR and runs non stop to Dortmund Central Station in about 25 minutes.
- The AirportShuttle is 3.00 EUR and takes about 6 minutes to Holzwickede station.
- From Holzwickede the RB59 runs to Dortmund Central Station on an ordinary VRR ticket.
- So the shuttle plus a train is far cheaper than the express, at the cost of one change.
- Children under 14 pay 2.00 EUR on either service, and under 6s travel free.
- Neither the Express nor the Shuttle accepts ordinary VRR tickets, though Rail and Fly tickets work on the Shuttle.
Two buses, two philosophies
| Service | Fare | Goes to | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| AirportExpress | 10.00 EUR | Dortmund Hbf, non stop | about 25 minutes |
| AirportShuttle | 3.00 EUR | Holzwickede station | about 6 minutes |
| Bus 490 | ordinary VRR fare | Dortmund Aplerbeck U |
- The Express is a private airport product at an airport price.
- The Shuttle is the cheap way out. Six minutes to Holzwickede, then the RB59 regional train into Dortmund Central Station on a normal ticket.
- Both charge 2.00 EUR for children under 14 and carry under 6s free.
The ticketing trap
- Neither the Express nor the Shuttle accepts standard VRR tickets. A Deutschlandticket does not get you onto them.
- Rail and Fly tickets are accepted on the Shuttle only.
- Bus 490 is the exception, an ordinary VRR service to Dortmund Aplerbeck for the U-Bahn, though it has run terminal to car park only during works.
Buying
- From the driver, cash only.
- From the machine in front of the terminal, cash in notes and coins, or by debit and credit card.
