Weeze Airport (NRN) to Duesseldorf, the Rhineland and Nijmegen
The bus to Weeze station is a single VRR fare zone, so it costs 3.80 EUR, while Duesseldorf on price level C is 19.80.
- The bus to Weeze or Kevelaer station is one fare zone, price level A: 3.80 EUR for an adult, 2.10 EUR for a child. Kevelaer and Weeze were merged into a single VRR fare zone on 1 June 2026.
- Price level B is 7.80 EUR and price level C, which is what Duesseldorf costs, is 19.80 EUR. A 24 hour ticket runs 7.60, 15.60 or 38.40 EUR on the same three levels.
- A DeutschlandTicket at 63.00 EUR a month covers all of it, including the regional trains onward, which is worth a look if you are in Germany for more than a few days.
- This is not Duesseldorf Airport. DUS has its own station and is minutes from the city. Weeze is on the Lower Rhine, about 80 km away, near the Dutch border.
- NIAG line SW1 runs between the terminal and Weeze Bahnhof in about 11 minutes; other services reach Kevelaer station in under twenty.
- Duesseldorf Hauptbahnhof is about 1 hour 07 minutes from Weeze station, and Krefeld about 40 minutes, so budget close to 1 hour 30 door to door.
- Carry euro cash. Tickets are commonly bought from the driver. Check the NIAG app before you rely on a card.
- Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, is the other direction and is served by an express bus. For some travellers it is the nearer real city.

- The short bus to the station is a price level A journey at 3.80 EUR, because Kevelaer and Weeze became a single fare zone on 1 June 2026. That is the cheap part of the trip.
- The expensive part is the train. Getting all the way to Duesseldorf crosses into price level C, which is 19.80 EUR for a single adult.
- A 24 hour ticket at level C costs 38.40 EUR, so it only makes sense if you are genuinely spending the day crossing the Ruhr.
- The DeutschlandTicket at 63.00 EUR a month beats two level C returns and covers every bus and regional train in Germany, which is the calculation to run if you are staying more than a long weekend.
Where the airport actually is
Weeze, formerly Niederrhein, is a converted RAF base on the Lower Rhine near the Dutch border, roughly 80 km northwest of Duesseldorf. Ryanair and Wizz Air have sold it under Duesseldorf's name for years. Duesseldorf's actual airport, DUS, has a railway station and a SkyTrain and is nothing to do with this place.
The bus, then the train
There is no station at the terminal. NIAG runs the connecting buses:
- SW1 to Weeze Bahnhof, six stops, about 11 minutes.
- Services to Kevelaer station, under twenty minutes, useful when the Weeze connection does not line up.
From Weeze station, regional trains run to Krefeld Hauptbahnhof in about 40 minutes and Duesseldorf Hauptbahnhof in about 1 hour 07. Add the bus and the change and the realistic door to door time to Duesseldorf is an hour and a half.
Tickets are routinely sold by the driver, in euro cash, so have coins and notes rather than assuming a contactless reader. NIAG also sells through its app and ticket shop, which is the safer route if you land without cash.
The Dutch option
Weeze is close to the Netherlands, and an express bus runs to Nijmegen in roughly an hour. If your destination is in the eastern Netherlands rather than the Ruhr, that is the shorter journey, and it is the one the German language guides tend not to mention.
