Memmingen Airport (FMM) to Munich and the rail network
Book a Deutsche Bahn ticket to Memmingen Allgaeu Airport and the City Shuttle to the terminal is included.
- This is not Munich's airport. Munich has MUC, on the S-Bahn. Memmingen is in Bavarian Swabia and the coach to Munich takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Book the train to "Memmingen Allgaeu Airport" on bahn.de and the City Shuttle between the terminal and Memmingen station is already included in the ticket. Booking to plain "Memmingen" leaves you paying for it twice.
- The City Shuttle runs about every 30 minutes, 04:10 to 23:10, from a stop in front of the terminal.
- The Allgaeu Airport Express runs direct to Munich Hauptbahnhof, timed to flights rather than to a clock.
- FlixBus is the cheap direct option, from around EUR 8 to Munich booked ahead.
The ticket trick worth knowing
Memmingen's connection to the rest of Germany is the Memmingen Airport City Shuttle, a bus between the terminal and Memmingen railway station. It runs from a stop directly in front of the terminal, roughly every 30 minutes between 04:10 and 23:10.
The useful part is how it is sold. Book your rail ticket on bahn.de to "Memmingen Allgaeu Airport" rather than to Memmingen, and the airport's own guidance is explicit: the City Shuttle journey is already included in your train ticket. Book to the town and the shuttle becomes a second fare.
Going to Munich
Two direct coaches leave from the same stop:
- Allgaeu Airport Express to Munich Hauptbahnhof, with several departures a day coordinated with flight schedules, so a late arrival is not stranded by a fixed timetable.
- FlixBus, from about EUR 8 one way booked ahead, in roughly 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 20.
Whichever you take, that hour and a quarter is the number to plan around. Anyone treating this as a Munich airport with a twenty-minute transfer has misread the map, and Munich's real airport (MUC) is on the far side of the city from here.
