Frankfurt Hahn Airport (HHN) to Frankfurt and Mainz

Hahn is 115 km from Frankfurt in the Hunsrueck hills; the coach takes over two hours and there is no train.

  • Hahn is 115 km west of Frankfurt, out in the Hunsrueck hills. It is not Frankfurt's airport - that is FRA, on the S-Bahn, and the two are nothing to do with each other.
  • The coach takes about 2 hours 10 minutes to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and costs from EUR 18.99 booked online with Flibco.
  • It calls at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) on the way, which is the stop you want if you are connecting to a long-haul flight or a fast train.
  • Mainz is the closer city - about an hour and a quarter by coach, and its Hauptbahnhof puts you on the main line north and south.
  • Do not take a taxi. It is 115 km of motorway, and on a low-cost fare the ride costs several times the flight.

Where the airport actually is

Frankfurt Hahn is a former US air base on the Hunsrueck plateau, 115 km west of Frankfurt. There is no railway station and no realistic public transport beyond the airport coaches. If your onward plan assumed a Frankfurt airport, rebuild it now: even the fast option is a two-hour bus.

The coach

Flibco runs the airport service to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, from EUR 18.99 one way online, taking about 2 hours 10 minutes. Buses stop at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and at Mainz on the way, one checked bag and one cabin bag are included, and a booking can be changed or cancelled up to six hours before departure. Miss your bus and the ticket is valid on the next one.

Mainz is the pragmatic choice if you are not tied to Frankfurt itself: roughly an hour and a quarter, and Mainz Hauptbahnhof puts you on the main line north and south. Check the last departure on Flibco's own timetable before counting on it - this is not an airport with a fallback.

Taxis

There is a rank, and it is a bad idea. Frankfurt is 115 km away by motorway, so a metered ride costs several times what most people paid for the flight. The only situation that justifies it is a missed last coach with a group to split it between, and even then the coach the next morning is usually cheaper than the hotel you would skip.
