Stuttgart Airport (STR) to the city

S2 and S3 reach the Hauptbahnhof in 25 to 30 minutes every 15 minutes, but the line is suspended from 20 July to 12 September, when the U6 tram and a replacement bus take over.

  • S-Bahn lines S2 and S3 run every 15 minutes between Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof and the airport, in 25 to 30 minutes.
  • From 20 July to 12 September the S-Bahn to the airport is suspended. Use the replacement bus or the U6.
  • The U6 light rail also serves the airport, every 10 minutes at peak, stopping at Flughafen Messe, a 5 minute walk from the terminals.
  • The N8 night bus connects the airport with the city centre early in the morning and late at night.
  • A one zone single is 3.70 EUR and a two zone single 4.90 EUR, from 1 September 2026.
  • Regional buses X3, X10 and X60 run direct from Reutlingen, Kirchheim and Leonberg.

The summer suspension

  • From 20 July to 12 September the S-Bahn does not serve the airport. This is the single thing to check before travelling.
  • A replacement bus runs, and the U6 light rail is the better alternative: every 10 minutes at peak, to Flughafen Messe, then a five minute walk.
  • Outside that window, S2 and S3 are the fast option, every 15 minutes, 25 to 30 minutes from the Hauptbahnhof.
