Heringsdorf (HDF): the airport is at Zirchow, not at Heringsdorf
The airport sits in the parishes of Garz and Zirchow, about eight kilometres south of the seaside resort. The island railway does not reach it; the nearest station is Ahlbeck.
- The airport is at Am Flughafen 1, 17419 Zirchow, on Usedom, in the parishes of Garz and Zirchow.
- It is about 8 km south of the resort of Heringsdorf, inland from the coast, not beside it.
- The nearest railway station is Ahlbeck, on the Usedomer Baederbahn (UBB).
- UBB trains run every 30 minutes in high season between Swinoujscie Centrum in Poland, Heringsdorf and Wolgast.
- Zuessow on the mainland is the interchange with Deutsche Bahn's regional and long-distance network.
- On summer weekends an Intercity runs towards the Ruhr and a through train to Berlin.
- Sources disagree sharply on the taxi fare. One puts a ride to the seaside resorts at about 15 euro; another quotes 30 to 35 euro to Heringsdorf and 25 to 30 to Ahlbeck.
- Agree the fare before you get in, given that spread.
- A regional bus serves the airport, on the network linking Benz, Dargen, Garz, Heringsdorf with Ahlbeck and Bansin, Kamminke, Zirchow and the rest of the island.
- The airport publishes its public transport departures on its passenger information page rather than in a fixed table.
- The scheduled destinations are Kassel, Luxembourg and Zurich, from the airport's own 2026 flight plan.
- UBB is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, so through ticketing to the mainland works.
Where this actually is
- The airport is at Zirchow, in the parishes of Garz and Zirchow, about 8 km south of the seaside resort of Heringsdorf that gives it its name.
- The address for satnav is Am Flughafen 1, 17419 Zirchow.
- This matters because the resorts are on the coast and the airport is inland. Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, the three imperial spas, are a bus or taxi ride away.
The railway
- The nearest station is Ahlbeck, served by the Usedomer Baederbahn.
- In high season UBB runs every 30 minutes between Swinoujscie Centrum on the Polish side, Heringsdorf and Wolgast.
- Zuessow, on the mainland, is where UBB meets Deutsche Bahn's regional and long-distance network.
- On summer weekends there is an Intercity towards the Ruhr and a through train to Berlin.
- UBB is a wholly owned DB subsidiary, which is why through tickets work.
Bus and taxi
- A regional bus network serves the airport along with Benz, Dargen, Garz, Heringsdorf with Ahlbeck and Bansin, Kamminke, Korswandt, Zirchow and the rest of Usedom.
- The airport publishes public transport departure times on its passenger information page rather than as a fixed printed table, so check it close to your date.
- The taxi quotes do not agree. One source puts a ride to the seaside resorts at about 15 euro; another quotes 30 to 35 euro to Heringsdorf and 25 to 30 to Ahlbeck. That is a factor of two.
- Agree the price before you set off.
What flies here
