Emden (EME): both island routes suspended, and parking is 8 euro a day

Emden is OFD's home airfield for the flights to Borkum and Juist. Both route pages currently say the flights are suspended. The city runs the car park at eight euro a day.

  • Emden is OFD's mainland base, with scheduled routes to Borkum and to Juist.
  • Both routes currently show as suspended on OFD's own pages. Borkum and Juist alike.
  • Confirm by phone before travelling, on 04921 8992-0 or info@fliegofd.de.
  • Each island flight takes 15 minutes when it operates.
  • The Juist fare is 129 euro one way, 52 euro for a child up to 2.
  • Parking at the airfield is run by the city of Emden at 8 euro per day.
  • A monthly parking pass costs 40 euro and is aimed at Juist residents who leave a car in Emden. Buy it by email from the airfield administration.
  • A 15 minute sightseeing flight over Emden and the Wadden Sea is bookable alongside a ticket.
  • OFD's head office is in Emden, at Gorch-Fock-Strasse 103.
  • Ostfriesland Tourismus lists Emden as the departure point for Borkum flights and for sightseeing over Emden, Borkum and East Frisia.
  • Bremen is the nearest international airport for onward connections.

What flies from here

  • Emden is OFD's home airfield. Its scheduled island routes are Emden to Borkum and Emden to Juist, each a 15 minute flight.
  • Both are currently suspended. OFD's Borkum page and its Juist page each carry a banner saying all flights to that island are suspended, with the timetables and fares still published underneath.
  • This is worth taking seriously before you drive to Emden. Call 04921 8992-0 or write to info@fliegofd.de.

Parking

  • The city of Emden runs parking directly at the airfield, at 8 euro per day.
  • A monthly pass is 40 euro, aimed at Juist residents who keep a car on the mainland. It is bought by email from the airfield administration.
  • For a short island trip that 8 euro a day is the main incidental cost, so factor it in against the ferry.

Also from Emden

  • A 15 minute sightseeing flight over Emden and the Wadden Sea can be added to a ticket.
  • OFD's head office is here, at Gorch-Fock-Strasse 103, 26721 Emden, which is also where charter enquiries go.

Context

  • Ostfriesland Tourismus lists Emden as the departure point for Borkum flights and for sightseeing over Emden, Borkum and East Frisia.
  • The nearest international airport is Bremen.
  • Several East Frisian islands are tide-dependent by sea and reachable by ferry only once a day, which is the whole reason this airfield matters.
