- The hop is short. The Norddeich airfield lies directly on the coast opposite the island, which is why it exists where it does.
The rules
- Reserve every flight in advance, by telephone or through the operator's contact form. There is no walk-up.
- Be at the airfield at least 15 minutes before the agreed time. FLN is explicit that after this point the seat can be disposed of otherwise.
- Check-in is only possible together with handing over your baggage.

Why fly rather than sail
- The ferries to the East Frisian islands are tide-dependent, and Ostfriesland Tourismus notes some islands are reachable only once a day as a result.

- Norddeich-Mole station is close to the airfield, so a train-and-plane arrival is straightforward.

- Norderney is the largest of the East Frisian islands and has a substantial town, so it is less austere than its car-free neighbours.
