Changsha Huanghua (CSX): the maglev, the metro, and their hours
Metro Line 6 terminates at Huanghua Airport T1T2 and runs until 23:00. The Maglev Express to the high speed railway station stops at 22:30 on weekdays.
- Two rail services reach these terminals, and they go to different places.
- Metro Line 6 terminates at Huanghua Airport T1T2. First train towards Xiejiaqiao 06:30, last train 23:00.
- The station itself is open from 06:20 until 00:31.
- The Maglev Express runs to Maglev High Speed Railway Station, next to Changsha South, with one intermediate stop at Langli.
- Maglev from the airport, weekdays: first 07:00, last 22:30.
- Maglev from the airport, weekends and holidays (and the day before a holiday): first 07:00, last 23:00.
- In the other direction the maglev stops earlier still: last train from the railway station 22:10 on weekdays, 22:40 at weekends.
- The metro runs later than the maglev in both directions, which is the fact that decides a late arrival.
Two railways to the same terminals
- Changsha Huanghua is served both by Metro Line 6 and by the Changsha Maglev Express, and they are not alternatives so much as different tools.
- Metro Line 6 terminates at Huanghua Airport T1T2 and runs across the city to Xiejiaqiao.
- The Maglev Express is a three station shuttle: Maglev Airport, Maglev Langli, Maglev High Speed Railway Station. That last one sits beside Changsha South, the high speed rail station.
- So: metro for the city, maglev for the train. If you are connecting onto a high speed service, the maglev is the direct link.
The hours, which are the whole point
- Metro Line 6 from the airport: first train 06:30, last train 23:00 towards Xiejiaqiao. The station opens at 06:20 and closes at 00:31.
- Maglev from the airport on a weekday: first 07:00, last 22:30.
- Maglev from the airport at a weekend or on a holiday (including the day before a holiday): first 07:00, last 23:00.
- Maglev towards the airport stops earlier: last departure from Maglev High Speed Railway Station is 22:10 on a weekday and 22:40 at a weekend.
- The metro runs half an hour later than the weekday maglev and keeps going when the maglev has finished. On a delayed evening arrival that is the difference between a train and a taxi.
Choosing between them
- Landing and heading into Changsha: Metro Line 6.
- Landing and catching a train onward: the maglev, provided it is still running.
- Landing after 23:00: neither. Plan for a taxi.
- The maglev is a genuine magnetic levitation line, one of very few in commercial passenger service anywhere, which is a small pleasure on the way to a train.
The city
- Changsha is the capital of Hunan and the food is the reason a lot of people come. It is hot in the chilli sense as well as the weather sense.
- Huanghua is east of the city, and the airport has grown fast: two terminals now, with a third under construction for years.
- Zhangjiajie, the sandstone pillars, is a separate flight or a long train ride away. It is in the same province and it is not close.
