Getting from Zhanjiang Wuchuan International Airport to the city

The airport in the name is not the airport on the map

• Zhanjiang Airport, the old field inside the city, was closed permanently at 00:00 on 24 March 2022. The whole operation moved in a single night: the last arrivals and departures on 23 March were Spring Airlines 9C8557 from Ningbo and 9C8896 to Shanghai, and the first aircraft at the new field touched down at 07:09 on 24 March.
• The replacement, Zhanjiang Wuchuan, is at Tangwei town in Wuchuan, and central Zhanjiang is about 35 km to the southwest. It was built to 4E, with a 61,800 square metre terminal, 19 airbridges, 30 stands and a 3,200 by 45 metre runway.
• Practically, that means the taxi fare, the coach time and the check in deadline all changed in 2022, and older guidance is not merely stale, it is about a different place.

The coach station is inside the building

• The airport coach station is in the arrivals hall on level one. After you collect your bags and leave the secure area, turn left; the station is between doors 6 and 7. You do not go outside to find it.
• Tickets are sold at the window and in the Zhanqi Group WeChat account, +86 759 3310000. Maoming services are sold through the Maoming Jiaotou account.

What the coach costs, and where the sources disagree

• The city journey takes about 50 minutes.
• The fare is published two ways. Zhanjiang's own government page gives 38 yuan on the Chikan and Xiashan lines; the 2025 station timetable gives 35 yuan. The airport express also ran an introductory 15 per cent discount at opening, which may be part of why the figures differ. Budget 35 to 38 yuan and expect the window price to rule.
• The hours are published two ways as well. The government page gives 07:00 to 21:30 with a bus roughly every 65 minutes, about 10 a day; the 2025 timetable gives 09:00 to 21:50 on the Chikan line and 09:00 to 01:30 on the Xiashan line, about 13 a day. The Xiashan line is the one that meets a late arrival.
• Three routings are in use: Xiashan via the Bay Bridge, Chikan A via the Bay Bridge, and Chikan B via the Yuzhan expressway. Chikan drops at Lingnan Normal University east gate, Mazhang station, several city hotels, Nanqiao station and Haitian station; Xiashan drops at the railway south station, Gongnong station, hotels along the bay and the Zhongnan city terminal.

Beyond Zhanjiang city

• County fares: Wuchuan 25 yuan, Lianjiang 38 to 45, Suixi 45, Leizhou 55 to 60, Xuwen 90. Leizhou and Xuwen run through Haitian station, and the interchange there is free on a through ticket.
• Maoming has its own line: about 12 services a day at 38 yuan, roughly hourly, dropping at the Wyndham, the Maoming International, the south square air terminal and other hotels.
• Every publisher, the government included, carries the same warning: services float with the flight schedule, and the fare and departure that apply are the ones in the WeChat account and at the station window on the day.

Parking, taxis and ride-hailing

• Vehicles staying 30 minutes or less are not charged. Beyond that, small cars pay 5 yuan an hour for the first two hours, then 3 yuan an hour up to eight hours, then a flat 28 yuan for 8 to 24 hours. Large vehicles pay 8, 5 and 46 on the same brackets, and motorcycles 2 yuan a day.
• Part hours round up to a full hour; a stay between 8 and 24 hours is billed as 8 hours; beyond 24 hours the brackets simply repeat.
• Taxis and ride-hailing cars have their own dedicated car park with central dispatch, charged 2 yuan per vehicle per visit. That is worth knowing because it settles the question guides usually leave open: ride-hailing operates at this airport and has a designated place to meet you, rather than being pushed to a roadside.

Since May 2026 the coach will come to your door

• On 20 May 2026 Zhanqi Group started a customised door to door service between Zhanjiang city and the airport, using 20 new nine seat electric MPVs.
• It covers two zones in Xiashan and one in Chikan. Inside those zones the vehicle collects you at your building and drops you at the terminal, and does the reverse on arrival. Outside them you use a fixed pick up point.
• It runs 07:30 to 19:00 every day, with departures adjusted to the day's flight schedule.
• Book it in the Zhanqi Group or Zhanjiang Haitian Station WeChat account under ticket services: pick the line, tick the door pick up option, choose a time and pick up point, enter passenger details and order. The driver telephones ahead to confirm and the vehicle can be tracked once it is moving.
• The transport department's own warning with the launch: domestic check in closes 30 minutes before departure at this airport, and because of weather and traffic you should arrive 60 minutes ahead.

The international part of the name

• The airport was renamed Zhanjiang Wuchuan International Airport with CAAC approval, announced on 8 March 2024, after the Zhanjiang air port passed national inspection for opening to foreign aircraft on 12 January 2024.
• International service remains thin. The Zhanjiang to Nha Trang route resumed on 30 April 2026 on a VietJet A321, and it runs on an alternating fortnightly pattern: Tuesday and Saturday one week, Thursday the next. VJ5132 leaves Nha Trang at 15:05 and lands at 18:00; VJ5133 leaves Zhanjiang at 19:00 and lands at 19:55 local. The border force runs a dedicated channel for Chinese citizens and undertakes to keep the queue under 30 minutes.
