Hangzhou Xiaoshan (HGH) to the city

Metro lines 1, 7 and 19 all call at the airport, with the station open 05:50 to 00:27. Hangzhou discounts fares the more you spend in a month, but the transfer discount does not apply to metro-only journeys.

  • Three metro lines serve the airport: 1, 7 and 19. Few airports anywhere have that.
  • The station is open 05:50 to 00:27, which is a long day by Chinese metro standards.
  • You may not get through the gates in the last five minutes. The airport warns that entry can be refused less than five minutes before the last scheduled departure.
  • Line 19 is the fast one, running to the West Railway Station, last train 23:14, and to Yongsheng Road, last train 00:09.
  • Line 7 runs to Wushan Square in the old centre, last train 22:49, which is earlier than you might expect.
  • Line 1 towards Xianghu stops at 22:30, the earliest of the three.
  • Fares fall the more you travel. Within a calendar month a stored-value card or the transport code gives 10 percent off up to CNY 50 spent, 30 percent off from CNY 50 to CNY 100, and 50 percent off above CNY 100.
  • The transfer discount excludes metro-only trips. A change within 3 to 90 minutes earns up to CNY 2 off, but not if your whole journey is on the metro.

Three lines, one station

  • Xiaoshan International Airport station is served by metro lines 1, 7 and 19.
  • Line 19 is the one built for speed, linking the airport with Hangzhou East and Hangzhou West railway stations.
  • Line 7 goes into the old centre at Wushan Square, and out the other way to Jiangdong Er Lu.
  • Line 1 runs to Xianghu.
  • The station opens at 05:50 and closes at 00:27.

Last trains, which differ a lot by line

  • Line 1 towards Xianghu: first 06:00, last 22:30.
  • Line 7 towards Jiangdong Er Lu: 06:06 to 23:14. Towards Wushan Square: 06:16 to 22:49.
  • Line 19 towards the West Railway Station: 06:03 to 23:14. Towards Yongsheng Road: 06:20 to 00:09.
  • So the useful line for a late arrival is 19, and the line into the old centre closes first.
  • Do not cut it fine at the gates. The airport's own note is that passengers may not be admitted less than five minutes before the last scheduled departure, so the practical last train is five minutes earlier than the timetable.

The discount ladder

  • Hangzhou discounts public transport by how much you have already spent that calendar month, on the transport QR code or a stored-value Hangzhou Tong card.
  • Up to CNY 50 spent: 10 percent off every ride.
  • From CNY 50 to CNY 100: 30 percent off.
  • Above CNY 100: half price.
  • Any leftover balance is not forfeited, and student cards are half price throughout.

The transfer rule with a sting

  • Changing between services within 3 to 90 minutes on the same code or card earns one transfer discount of up to CNY 2.
  • Passengers whose whole journey is on the metro do not get it. Nor do passengers paying with coins.
  • So the discount is really for bus to metro or metro to bus, not for a change between two metro lines.
  • Free same-platform interchanges are unaffected and continue as before.
