Harbin Taiping (HRB): four coach lines, no metro, and the one that runs all night
There is no rail link. Four airport coach lines cover the city at a flat 20 yuan, and line 1 runs around the clock from the airport.
- No metro or train reaches the airport. The coach, a taxi or a ride hailing car are the only ways in.
- All four airport coach lines cost 20 yuan.
- Line 1 runs to Harbin Railway Station by way of Kang'an Lu and Anfa Bridge, ending at the old Civil Aviation Terminal on Zhongshan Lu.
- Line 1 runs 24 hours a day from the airport, which is the fact worth remembering when a flight lands at three in the morning.
- From the city, line 1 runs 06:30 to 18:00, with a single 06:30 departure from the railway station itself.
- Line 2 runs to the Convention Centre by way of Hexing Shang Sha and Nongken Da Sha.
- Line 3 runs to Taiping Bridge by way of Jianguo Jie and Nanma Lu.
- Line 4 crosses the river to Jiangbei, with only two departures a day from the city.
- Buses leave when full, and the wait is usually under 30 minutes.
- Allow 45 to 60 minutes into the centre, and a taxi to the railway station is about 130 to 150 yuan.
There is no train
- Harbin Taiping has no metro station and no railway station. Harbin has a metro; it does not come here.
- That makes the airport coach the default, not a fallback, and it is why the coach network is unusually well developed.
The four coach lines
- All four charge a flat 20 yuan, whichever one you take and however far you go.
- Line 1 is the one most arrivals want: airport, Kang'an Lu, Anfa Bridge, Harbin Railway Station, Wenchang Jie, and the old Civil Aviation Terminal on Zhongshan Lu.
- Line 2 runs to the Convention Centre by way of Hexing Shang Sha, Lesong Guang Chang, Haci and Nongken Da Sha.
- Line 3 runs to Taiping Bridge by way of Chilun Lu, Jianguo Jie, Anguo Jie, Nanma Lu and Xuanhua Jie.
- Line 4 crosses to the north bank at Jiangbei, by way of Chilun Lu, the road bridge and Shimao Da Dao.
The hours, which are the whole point
- Line 1 runs around the clock in the airport to city direction. Harbin gets late arrivals and the line is built for them.
- In the city to airport direction line 1 runs 06:30 to 18:00, plus one 06:30 departure from Harbin Railway Station.
- Line 2 runs 06:00 to 18:00 from the city, every 30 minutes.
- Line 3 runs 06:30 to 16:30 from the city, every 40 minutes.
- Line 4 has two city departures a day, 09:00 and 13:50.
- Buses generally leave when they fill up rather than to a strict clock, and the wait is normally under half an hour.
Taxis, and the winter
- A taxi to Harbin Railway Station is about 130 to 150 yuan, and a little over 100 to the central area.
- Reckon on 45 to 60 minutes either way, longer in traffic.
- Harbin winters are severe. Waiting outdoors for a bus that leaves when full is a different proposition in January than in July, and it is worth paying for a car at minus 25.
