Tianjin Binhai (TSN): metro line 2 for 3 yuan, and the road and rail routes to Beijing
Line 2 terminates at the airport and reaches downtown Tianjin for 3 yuan. Beijing is a 35 yuan coach or a half hour bullet train from Tianjin station.
- Metro line 2 terminates at Binhai International Airport station, in the airport itself. It opened on 28 August 2014.
- The metro fare to downtown Tianjin is 3 yuan, and no single trip on line 2 costs more than 5.
- Line 2 runs roughly 06:00 to 22:55 between Caozhuang in the west and the airport in the east, 20 stations over about 27 km.
- Airport coaches to Tianjin railway station cost 15 yuan and take 15 to 20 minutes, running 06:00 to 19:30 every half hour from gate 2 of the domestic exit.
- After 19:30 the same coach continues to Nanjing Lu, running until the last flight lands.
- A separate coach runs to Nanjing Lu by way of Zhongshanmen light rail station, 10:15 to 19:15.
- A free shuttle links the airport with the Airport Economic Area metro station, five departures each way, about 15 minutes.
- A long distance coach runs to Beijing Bawangfen for 35 yuan, about two hours.
- The faster route to Beijing is the intercity train from Tianjin station, roughly 06:25 to 22:45 every 10 to 30 minutes, about half an hour.
- Taxis start at 8 yuan. Above 3 km the rate is 2 yuan per km for a car of 1.6 litres or more, 1.7 for a smaller one, rising above 10 km.
The metro, which is the answer for Tianjin
- Line 2 ends at the airport. The station is called Binhai International Airport and it has been open since 28 August 2014.
- The fare to downtown is 3 yuan, and the most any single trip on the line costs is 5. There is no airport premium.
- The line runs about 06:00 to 22:55, from Caozhuang in the west to the airport in the east, 20 stations over roughly 27 km.
- This is the cheapest airport metro in this size of Chinese city, and it goes to the middle of Tianjin, so unless you are heading for Beijing there is not much to decide.
The airport coaches
- The main line runs to Tianjin railway station for 15 yuan, taking 15 to 20 minutes, every half hour from 06:00 to 19:30. Pick it up at gate 2 of the domestic exit.
- From 19:30 until the last flight lands the same line continues to Nanjing Lu.
- A second line runs to Nanjing Lu directly, 10:15 to 19:15 every half hour, calling at Zhongshanmen light rail station and the Wanlong Building.
- A free shuttle links the terminal with the Airport Economic Area metro station, about 15 minutes, with five departures in each direction spread across the day.
Getting to Beijing, which is why many people land here
- By coach: a long distance bus runs to Beijing Bawangfen coach station for 35 yuan, taking about two hours.
- By train: take the coach or the metro to Tianjin railway station, then the Beijing to Tianjin intercity service, roughly 06:25 to 22:45 every 10 to 30 minutes, about 30 minutes to Beijing South.
- By taxi: possible and priced accordingly, reported at around 500 yuan.
- The train wins on almost every count except the first and last hour of the day.
Taxis in Tianjin
- The flag falls at 8 yuan for the first 3 km.
- Between 3 and 10 km it is 2 yuan per km for an engine of 1.6 litres or more, and 1.7 for a smaller one.
- Above 10 km the rate rises to 3 and 2.5 yuan per km respectively.
- The two tier tariff by engine size is unusual, and it is why two taxis on the same trip can quote different meters.
