Mianyang Nanjiao (MIG): fifteen yuan, fifteen minutes
The airport is on the southern edge of Mianyang. A taxi downtown is about 15 yuan. Buses cost 1 to 7 and reach the railway station directly.
- A taxi to downtown Mianyang takes about 15 minutes and costs about 15 yuan.
- That is close to the cheapest airport taxi fare in China, and it changes the calculation entirely.
- Airport bus line 301 runs 06:00 to 20:00 for 3 yuan, to the Nanhu and Pingzheng coach stations.
- Line 302 runs 07:30 to 19:40 for 5 yuan, to the Nanhu coach station and Mianyang railway station.
- Line 304 runs 07:00 to 22:00 for 5 yuan, direct to the railway station and downtown.
- Line 304 has the latest finish, which makes it the one for an evening arrival.
- City bus 48 runs 06:20 to 20:00 for 2 yuan to the Nanhu coach station and downtown.
- City bus 79 runs 06:30 to 20:30 for 1 to 2 yuan to the railway station.
- City bus 75 runs 06:20 to 21:00 for 1 to 2 yuan.
- City bus 601 runs 07:00 to 16:30 for 6 to 7 yuan to the railway station and the outer districts.
The taxi is the answer
- Mianyang Nanjiao is on the southern edge of the city. Downtown is about 15 minutes away.
- The fare is about 15 yuan.
- There is not much argument to be had here. A 3 yuan bus that takes three times as long saves 12 yuan.
The buses, if you want them
- Line 301: airport, Nanhu coach station, Pingzheng coach station. 06:00 to 20:00, 3 yuan.
- Line 302: airport, Nanhu coach station, Mianyang railway station. 07:30 to 19:40, 5 yuan.
- Line 304: airport, railway station, downtown. 07:00 to 22:00, 5 yuan.
- Line 304 runs latest and goes furthest, so it is the useful one after dark.
The city routes
- Line 48: airport to the Nanhu coach station and downtown, 06:20 to 20:00, 2 yuan.
- Line 75: airport to the Nanhu coach station and around, 06:20 to 21:00, 1 to 2 yuan.
- Line 79: airport to the railway station, 06:30 to 20:30, 1 to 2 yuan.
- Line 601: airport to the railway station and the outer districts, 07:00 to 16:30, 6 to 7 yuan.
- For the railway station there are four separate ways to get there between the shuttle lines and the city routes, which is more choice than this size of airport usually offers.
Why people fly here
- Mianyang is the second city of Sichuan and the airport also serves the northern part of the province.
- It is the usual air gateway for Jiuzhaigou overland, and for the Beichuan earthquake memorial.
- Chengdu is about 100 km south, roughly an hour by high speed train from Mianyang railway station, which is why the bus lines to that station matter more than they look.
