Zhengzhou Xinzheng (CGO): the Chengjiao metro line, the airport railway station, and the coaches
The Chengjiao line runs into the city and through onto line 2. The airport has its own intercity railway station. Coaches reach both main railway stations for about 20 yuan.
- The metro, the railway station and the coach hall are all in the ground transport centre attached to the terminal.
- The Chengjiao line is the airport metro line. It runs between the airport and Nansihuan over about 32 km and 15 stations.
- A single trip takes about 40 minutes to Nansihuan, where it meets line 2 into the centre.
- Reaching the city centre is reported at about 8 yuan and a little over an hour end to end, so allow more than the 40 minutes the line itself takes.
- The airport has its own railway station with intercity trains to Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou East, Jiaozuo and Songchenglu for Kaifeng.
- Zhengzhou East is the high speed station, which is the connection that matters for onward travel.
- Airport coaches run to Zhengzhou railway station and to Zhengzhou East, reported at about 20 yuan.
- Coaches also run across Henan to Luoyang, Kaifeng, Xuchang, Xinxiang, Nanyang, Anyang, Jiaozuo, Pingdingshan, Shangqiu, Zhoukou and Zhumadian.
- A taxi to the centre is reported at about 90 yuan and 35 minutes, a ride hailing car at about 70.
One building, three ways out
- The ground transport centre sits against the terminal and holds the metro station, the intercity railway station and the coach hall. You do not go outside to change between them.
- This is the reason Zhengzhou is easier than its size suggests. The airport is about 35 km from the city and everything that covers that distance starts in the same place.
The metro
- The Chengjiao line is the line that reaches the airport. It runs between Xinzheng International Airport and Nansihuan, about 32 km and 15 stations.
- A single trip on the line takes about 40 minutes.
- At Nansihuan it connects with line 2, which carries on into the centre, and trains run through between the two.
- Reckon on about 8 yuan and a little over an hour to reach the middle of Zhengzhou. Guides differ on both figures, which is the usual sign that they are quoting different endpoints; the metro's own fare is charged by distance.
The trains
- The airport station takes intercity trains to Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou East, Jiaozuo and Songchenglu, the last of which is the stop for Kaifeng.
- Zhengzhou East is the high speed station. If you are flying in and taking a fast train onward, that is the transfer, and it is a train to train change rather than a taxi across the city.
The coaches
- Airport coaches run to Zhengzhou railway station and to Zhengzhou East, at a reported fare of about 20 yuan.
- Long distance coaches run from the same hall to cities across the central plain: Luoyang, Kaifeng, Xuchang, Xinxiang, Nanyang, Anyang, Jiaozuo, Pingdingshan, Shangqiu, Zhoukou, Zhumadian, and across the provincial border to Heze, Changzhi and Jincheng.
- For Luoyang and Kaifeng this is often quicker than going into Zhengzhou first, because it skips the city entirely.
Taxis
- A metered taxi into the centre is reported at about 90 yuan, taking roughly 35 minutes.
- Ride hailing is reported at about 70 yuan for the same trip.
- Both figures come from travel guides rather than from a tariff, so treat them as the shape of the price rather than the price.
