Hefei (HFE): three express lines, and a bookable one for Binhu
The airport express was reorganised on 25 August 2026 into three routes. Line 1 serves the railway station and Hefei West, line 3 the south high-speed station, and the Binhu line is booked in advance.
- The airport express network was rebuilt on 25 August 2026 into three routes covering the main districts.
- Line 1 starts at the Mingguang Road bus station and calls at Hefei railway station, the Holiday Inn on the North First Ring, Bozhou Road metro station, and Hefei West high-speed station (bay 9 at the bus entrance).
- Line 3 starts at Zilu station, from the metro's basement level, and calls at Hefei South high-speed station and the Passenger Transport Centre.
- The Binhu special line is different: it is booked, not turned up for.
- Book Binhu at least 90 minutes ahead in the "Hefei Airport Express" WeChat mini-program, if you are inside the Binhu New District geofence.
- Binhu runs 08:00 to 19:00 on a 60 minute cycle.
- The lines connect the two high-speed stations, the conventional railway station, the bus stations and several metro entrances, which is the point of the redesign.
- Return times from the airport are posted at the ticket desk on the day, not fixed in advance.
Three lines since 25 August 2026
- Hefei rebuilt its airport express network in late August 2026. If you are working from an older guide, the route numbers will be wrong.
- Line 1 runs from the Mingguang Road bus station, past Hefei railway station, the Bojing Holiday Inn on the North First Ring, Bozhou Road metro station, and finishes at Hefei West high-speed station, departing from bay 9 at the bus entrance.
- Line 3 starts at Zilu station on the metro's basement level, then Hefei South high-speed station, then the Passenger Transport Centre.
- Between them the two lines touch both high-speed stations, the old railway station, two bus stations and several metro entrances. That is deliberate: Xinqiao is a long way out and the network is designed as a feeder to rail.
The Binhu line is booked, not caught
- The Binhu special line serves the Binhu New District, the lakeside new town south of the city.
- You must be inside its electronic geofence and you must book at least 90 minutes ahead, through the "Hefei Airport Express" WeChat mini-program.
- It operates 08:00 to 19:00 on a 60 minute cycle.
- This is effectively a shared on-demand shuttle rather than a scheduled bus, and it will not pick you up outside the zone.
Practical
- Times back into the city from the airport are posted at the ticket desk on the day and follow the flight schedule, so check on arrival rather than planning to the minute.
- The bus operator publishes its own timetable separately from the airport.
The airport
- Xinqiao is about 31 km north-west of central Hefei, which is why the bus network is built around it rather than a short hop.
- It replaced the old Luogang airport in 2013, and Luogang's site is now a park inside the city.
- Hefei is the capital of Anhui and the jumping-off point for Huangshan, the Yellow Mountains, which are better reached by high-speed rail from either of the two stations the express lines serve.
