Oklahoma City (OKC): no city bus reaches Will Rogers, and one firm holds the taxi contract
EMBARK, the city bus operator, has no stop within 3 km of the terminal and the airport lists no bus at all among its ground transport. Taxis and shuttles are a single exclusive operator, available 24/7 without a reservation.
- There is no public bus to Will Rogers. The airport's own parking and transportation page lists rideshare, taxi, shuttle, limousine and rental car, and no bus.
- EMBARK's published timetable data has no stop within 3 km of the terminal. The nearest stops are on South May Avenue, about 3.2 km west.
- Taxis and shuttles are a single exclusive operator. Airport Express and its sister company Vital Transportation have held the sole contract since 2020, and Airport Express has served the field since 1986.
- Taxi: Vital Transportation on 877-688-3311. Shuttle: Airport Express on 405-681-3311.
- Both run 24/7 and need no reservation. They wait outside the lower level baggage claim, in the first lane of the Ground Transportation Plaza.
- A trip starting at the airport carries an extra 2.00 USD service fee, plus a 1.50 USD administration fee on every trip, charged by the operator.
- A vehicle for more than five passengers must be booked by telephone at least 24 hours ahead, at 1.5 times the five seat rate.
- Uber and Lyft pick up on the UPPER level, outside the United Airlines ticket counter. Not at baggage claim, which is where the taxis are.
- Turo handovers are only allowed in the economy, long term, covered or garage facilities, never curbside and never in hourly or premium.
- Parking: 2.00 USD an hour hourly, 6 USD a day economy, 8 USD long term, 12 USD covered, 15 USD garage, 25 USD premium.
- The free cell phone waiting area is on Terminal Drive just south of Amelia Earhart Lane.
- The airport was renamed OKC Will Rogers International Airport on 27 August 2024. The code stays OKC, and older signage and guides still say Will Rogers World Airport.
There is no bus, and no one says so plainly
- The airport's parking and transportation page covers rideshare, taxi and shuttle, limousines, courtesy vehicles and rental cars. It never mentions a public bus, because none comes here.
- EMBARK is Oklahoma City's transit operator and its own published timetable data contains no stop within 3 km of the terminal. The closest stops are on South May Avenue, roughly 3.2 km west, served by routes 12, 13 and 16. There is no walking route from there that any traveller with luggage would want.
- Plan on a car. The question is only whose.
One operator holds both the taxi and the shuttle contract
- Airport Express and Vital Transportation became the exclusive providers of taxi and shuttle service in 2020, and Airport Express has worked the airport since 1986. There is no competing rank.
- Vital Transportation (taxi): 877-688-3311. Airport Express (shuttle): 405-681-3311. Dispatch answers around the clock.
- Service is available 24/7 and needs no reservation. Both wait outside the lower level baggage claim, in the first lane of the Ground Transportation Plaza.
- The operator adds 2.00 USD to any trip originating at the airport and 1.50 USD administration on every trip. A vehicle for more than five passengers must be reserved by phone at least 24 hours ahead and costs 1.5 times the five seat rate.
Rideshare is on the other level from the taxis
- Uber and Lyft pick up on the upper, departures level, outside the United Airlines ticket counter. Walking out of baggage claim and waiting at the kerb there is the common mistake: that lane is for taxis, shuttles and courtesy vehicles.
- Turo vehicle exchange is permitted only in economy, long term, covered or garage parking, and is banned curbside and in the hourly and premium facilities.
Parking and waiting
- Hourly 2.00 USD per hour. Economy 6 USD a day. Long term 8 USD. Covered north or south 12 USD. Garage 15 USD. Premium 25 USD.
- The cell phone waiting area on Terminal Drive, just south of Amelia Earhart Lane, is free, and the terminal kerbs on both levels are active loading only. Waiting in a vehicle there earns a ticket.
The name changed and the old one is still everywhere
- Oklahoma City Council approved the new name OKC Will Rogers International Airport on 27 August 2024. The code is still OKC. Maps, guides and some signage still say Will Rogers World Airport, and the airport's own pages use both.
