Jacksonville (JAX): route 1 North Main is the whole public transport offer

- The service window is wide: first departure 04:38, last 00:18. About 120 scheduled calls in the published timetable.
- The two headsigns are Airport and Downtown. The route runs down North Main Street into the centre.
What does not run
- There is no train. Jacksonville's Skyway is a short automated people mover confined to the downtown core.
- There is no dedicated airport express. Route 1 is an ordinary city bus that happens to reach the airport.
The distance problem
- The airport sits roughly 21 km north of downtown. On a local bus with stops along Main Street that is a long ride.
- If you are connecting to the beaches or to St Augustine, you are changing downtown at least once.
So what do people do
- Taxi or ride-hail from the terminal is what the overwhelming majority of arrivals use.
- Rental car is the default for anyone leaving the city, because northeast Florida is not a place you get around without one.
- Route 1 is genuinely useful if you are travelling light, going downtown, and not in a hurry.
