Columbus (CMH): route 7 is the only bus, and it takes about 43 minutes
COTA route 7 calls at baggage claim and runs 05:02 to 00:08. The run into downtown Columbus takes a median 43 minutes.
- COTA route 7 is the only bus that calls at the airport, at the baggage claim stop.
- It runs 05:02 to 00:08, so early departures and late arrivals are both covered.
- The run into downtown takes a median 43 minutes, and between 38 and 51 depending on traffic.
- Route 7 is signed "Mount Vernon" in one direction and "Airport" in the other, so read the destination board rather than the number alone.
- 43 minutes is slow for 10 km: this is a local bus with every stop, not an express.
- A taxi or a ride-hail covers the same ground in 15 to 20 minutes outside rush hour.
- There is no rail service to the airport.
One bus, and it is a local
- The Central Ohio Transit Authority runs a single route to John Glenn Columbus: route 7, which stops at baggage claim.
- It is a local bus, not an airport express. In COTA's own timetable data the run to East Broad Street in downtown Columbus takes a median 43 minutes, with a spread of 38 to 51.
- The airport is only about 10 km from downtown. The 43 minutes is stops, not distance.
Hours
- First departure 05:02, last 00:08. That is a nineteen-hour service day and covers essentially the whole flight schedule.
- Route 7 is signed Mount Vernon Avenue at the far end, and "Airport" coming the other way, so check the destination on the front of the bus.
When the bus is the wrong answer
- If you are carrying a lot, or landing tired, take a car. The same trip is 15 to 20 minutes by road outside the peak.
- If you are heading anywhere other than the Broad Street corridor, you will change buses downtown, and the 43 minutes becomes an hour.
The airport
- John Glenn Columbus International is named for the astronaut and senator, who was from Ohio; it was Port Columbus until 2016.
- It is almost entirely domestic and small enough that arrivals rarely take long.
- There is no rail link and none planned, so the choice is route 7 or a car.
