Getting from Nashville International Airport to the city

One route, one sign

• WeGo Route 18 Airport connects Nashville International with downtown, and the whole trick is finding where it stops.
• The boarding point is the BNA Ground Transportation Center, on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage.
• The steps, in the transit authority's own words: exit baggage claim; follow signs to Ground Transportation; find Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage; look for the purple WeGo bus stop sign; wait for the next bus, tap your card and go.
• Going to the airport, the bus starts downtown at the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central, and makes scheduled stops on the way.

What it costs and how long it takes

• 2 dollars each way for an adult. No surge, no airport premium.
• Pay with QuickTicket, a contactless credit or debit card, a mobile wallet, or exact cash. American Express is not accepted.
• A QuickTicket or contactless fare is a 2 hour pass - transfers are built in. Pay cash and you get no transfer.
• Express trips run downtown in about 20 minutes. Local trips take 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Practical

• Luggage is fine. WeGo says so explicitly, which is more than many American transit agencies do.
• Check the schedule before you set out. WeGo points people at its own site, the Transit app or Google Maps for live times, and printed timetables are in racks at the transit centres.

What to expect

• The airport is about 13 km south-east of downtown, and Nashville traffic is the variable that decides whether the bus or a car is faster.
• This airport has grown very fast, and the terminal has been rebuilt around the growth, which is why the Ground Transportation Center is in a garage rather than at the kerb.
• Broadway, the honky-tonk strip, is a short walk from WeGo Central, so the bus genuinely delivers you to the thing most visitors came for.
