The route, and the interchange
- RDU is served by GoTriangle Route 100 and the RDU Shuttle, and both run to the Regional Transit Center.
- That is the hub: from there you pick up routes to Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Research Triangle Park.
- It is a change, not a direct ride, and that is the honest shape of public transport here.
Where to stand
- Terminal 1: the GoTriangle pickup is between Zones 2 and 3 on the kerb.
- Terminal 2: it is at Zones 6 and 7.
- Two terminals, two different zones. Check your terminal before you go outside.
What it costs
- 2.50 dollars full fare, tapped with a GoPass card or the UMO mobile ticketing app.
- Fare capping: 5 dollars a day, 20 a week, 80 a calendar month. After the cap, riding is free.
- Discount fare 1.25, capped at 2.50 a day, 10 a week and 40 a month.
- Youth 13 to 18 and seniors 65 and over qualify for free fare - worth checking before you pay.
Trains
- There is no rail station at the airport. Amtrak's Carolinian and Piedmont trains call at Cary, Raleigh and Durham, and reaching them means a bus or a taxi.
- GoTriangle's transportation service providers can arrange the connection if you are carrying luggage and would rather not change buses.
The Triangle
- RDU sits in the middle of the Research Triangle, between Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, which is why there is no single "city centre" bus.
- The three cities are 30 to 40 km apart, and the airport is roughly in the middle of the triangle they form.
- Research Triangle Park is the closest major destination, and it is a business park rather than a town, so plan the last mile.
