Lihue (LIH): The Kauai Bus at baggage claim, and the luggage rule
Routes 100 and 200 serve stops named Lihue Airport Baggage Claim A and B. The mainline runs the length of the island, roughly 05:30 to 22:45.
- There are two airport stops in the network data: Lihue Airport Baggage Claim A and Lihue Airport Baggage Claim B.
- Route 100, Kekaha to Lihue Mainline, runs 06:43 to 22:44, signed LIHUE.
- Route 200, Lihue to Kekaha Mainline, runs 05:29 to 19:31, the other direction along the same spine.
- Routes 900 and 950 are the express services, signed ANAHOLA-WAIMEA and WAIMEA-ANAHOLA, a handful of trips each.
- The mainline is the whole island's spine, running from Kekaha in the west round to Lihue and on to the north shore.
- Frequency is low. Around 68 scheduled calls on route 100 and 60 on route 200 across the timetable.
- The Kauai Bus restricts luggage to what fits on your lap or under the seat. Full-size suitcases are not carried, which is the single thing most arrivals do not know.
- Kauai is a rental car island in practice, and most visitors treat the bus as a supplement rather than a plan.

- The Kauai Bus, run by the County of Kauai, calls at the airport. Its network data lists Lihue Airport Baggage Claim A and Baggage Claim B.

- Route 200, Lihue to Kekaha Mainline: 05:29 to 19:31, about 60 calls.
- Routes 900 and 950 are the limited-stop expresses between Anahola and Waimea, about eight trips each.
The luggage problem
- The Kauai Bus does not take full-size suitcases. The rule is that baggage must fit on your lap or under your seat.
- This catches out a lot of arrivals, because the stop is literally called Baggage Claim.
- If you are travelling with a carry-on only, the bus works. Otherwise it does not, whatever the timetable says.
The shape of the island
- The mainline runs along the one road that circles most of Kauai, from Kekaha in the west through Waimea, Hanapepe and Lihue, and on up the east coast.
- Lihue is the island's town, and the airport is on its edge, about 2 km from the centre.
- The road does not go all the way round. The Na Pali coast breaks it, so the north and west ends are separate journeys.
What most people do
- Rent a car. Kauai's beaches, trailheads and the Waimea Canyon road are not realistically reachable otherwise.
- Use the bus for Lihue itself and for the Kapaa corridor, where it is genuinely useful and very cheap.
