Getting from Indianapolis International Airport to the city

Route 8

• IndyGo route 8 Washington is the only bus that serves the airport. It runs from the terminal along Washington Street to the Julia M. Carson Transit Center in downtown Indianapolis.
• Weekday departures from the airport start at 05:04 and finish at 00:28, on a roughly half-hourly pattern through the day.
• The Transit Center is the hub for the whole IndyGo network, including the Red, Purple and Blue rapid lines, so anywhere else in the city is one connection away.

What it costs

• Full fare 2.75 dollars, half fare 1.35.
• Daily capping at 6.00 dollars, weekly at 24.75. Once you have paid the cap, the rest of the day is free, so there is no reason to buy a day pass in advance.
• Children aged 5 and under ride free with a paying adult.

The catch

• This is a local bus down a long arterial street, not an airport express. Allow for a slow ride with many stops.
• Washington Street has been under construction for the Blue Line rapid transit project, and IndyGo has posted stop closures on route 8 more than once. Check the alerts before you rely on a particular stop.

The airport

• Indianapolis International is about 11 km south-west of downtown.
• It is consistently rated among the best airports in North America for its single compact terminal, which means a short walk from gate to ground transport.
• The Transportation Center is on the ground level of the parking garage, connected to the terminal by a covered walkway, and that is where the bus stops.
