Getting from Salt Lake City International Airport to the city

The station is outside the door

• Salt Lake City International's TRAX station is on the ground level, outside the terminal on the east side.
• Leave through door 1A and go east. That is the whole instruction, and it is unusual to be able to write one that short for an American airport.
• UTA, the Utah Transit Authority, runs it, and the line is the Green Line.

Where the Green Line goes

• Into downtown Salt Lake City, through the centre, and out to West Valley City on the other side.
• From downtown you can change onto the Red and Blue lines for the university and the southern suburbs, and onto FrontRunner, the commuter railway that runs north to Ogden and south to Provo.
• FrontRunner costs extra. It is a premium service with its own fare, so a TRAX ticket will not carry you onto it.

Fares

• One way: 2.50 dollars, valid for two hours on bus, TRAX, UVX, the S-Line and UTA On Demand. That two hour window is generous enough to include a connecting bus at the far end.
• Day pass: 5.00 dollars, unlimited rides that day on the same services.
• Buy before boarding on TRAX. Day passes for journeys starting on TRAX must come from a station ticket vending machine or the Transit app.
• A FAREPAY reloadable card caps charges at 5 dollars a day and 20 dollars a week, which quietly makes it the cheapest way to ride for anyone staying several days.

Landing here

• The airport was rebuilt from scratch and reopened in stages. The single consolidated terminal replaced the old two terminal layout, and the walk from the far gates is genuinely long.
• The mountains you can see from the concourse are 40 minutes away. If you are going to a ski resort, the canyon shuttles and the resort operators leave from the ground level, not the TRAX platform.
• Utah is on Mountain Time and does observe daylight saving, which trips up connections booked from abroad.
